day 1 pictorial review

Day 1. A grueling journey, through hostile terrain. I can already sense the madness of my partner. Surely, only one of us will return from this trip. Quiet! She comes!

on our first leg of the trip, we were able to cover 123 leagues. we took turns driving 140 mile stretches.

for this trip we made a decision to try to have our meals at local restaurants to get more of a feel for the culture of the towns. yesterday, with the help of our AAA guide books, we stopped in Troy, NY to have lunch at a place called Holmes & Watson, Ltd. this is a restaurant with a Sherlock Holmes theme. really, we stopped there for michael, so i'll let him describe the experience.

Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth. And I had a wonderful Reuben.

This is a sign in New York. We wanted to take a picture of the sign you see entering the state, but someone couldn't work a camera if it came already worky and stuff. That, and it's tough to take pictures at 65 mph, yadda yadda yadda...

i tried my best.

This is Catherine's sister, Mary. She and her boyfriend are kind enough to put up with us for two whole nights! Bear that in mind when I come a-knockin' at your door. You know who your are. But one question: why do you only have a picture of your sister's butt?

here are michael and alan, mary's boyfriend, relaxing on the benches. it was late when this happened. we were checking out the waterfall that is near their apartment and watching the bats fly around catching bugs. michael didn't like them very much. read: wuss.
